National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL): Asheville TerminettorsSM

Founded in 1969 by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell, and Sheridan Snyder, the NJTL was created as a way to gain and hold the attention of young people, with the hope of teaching them the importance of character, getting an education and becoming productive citizens.

Today, NJTL network features more than 250 nonprofit youth development organizations that offer free or low-cost tennis and education programming to over 160,000 under- resourced youth each year.

NJTL is supported by the USTA Foundation, the national charitable organization of the USTA. The work done by its member chapters includes after-school tutoring that focuses on academic enrichment, a life-skills curriculum and, of course, tennis.

The ATA partnered with Stephens Lee Community Center to launch our pilot National Junior Tennis & Learning after school program in 2021.

The mission of TerminettorsSM is to expose tennis to youth in Buncombe County who otherwise might not have the opportunity AND to help in any way to bridge the academic gap. The program is free of charge.

Children receive tennis lessons from Certified Professional Teachers as well as classroom instruction and study time provided by an academic teacher.

The ATA thanks Aston Park and the City of Asheville for the use of the courts and clubhouse for Terminettors. We also thank Corner Kitchen and Chestnut for generously sponsoring healthy snacks for the participants!
